Last Saturday afternoon I drove through to Bart's Tavern, situated on Beach Rd, Strand.

A very good mate of mine chose this venue for his birthday, and as this was my first visit to Bart's Tavern, I saw this as a golden opportunity to investigate this unobtrusive, unpretentious little pub and to give an honest opnion to our loyal readers who count on us to direct them to the best bars in South Africa.

And boy was I surprised...

Bart's Tavern is a small, unobtrusive (yes I have used this adjective twice, as it best describes it's geographical predisposition) little pub, quietly situated on the Corner of Beach Rd and Main Rd, just a chip and a put away from the joining traffic circle. In actual fact, you have to look closely to notice it, if you weren't looking for it.

It is build atop a concrete jetty - like structure, almost levitating above the incoming tide of Strand beach. Upon entering, you will notice the "10 Commandments" that need to be honoured and respected when visiting and enjoing a drink at this public house. Among other's, the rule "No jumping from windows..." caused me to chuckle, prodding me to infer that this probably had been enough of an issue in the past to thus warrant a rule...

In a nutshell, I cannot fault Bart's Tavern on any of our judgement criterea, as it is a genuine bar for genuine people...no frills and no fuss, just good prices and service.

They also have a constant assortement of special offers, so if you are a keen DBC (Double Brandy & Coke) drinker, this is the place for you.

Plus, the view from the seating area adds another 10 points to this little bars scorecard...

Bart's Tavern - pop in and have a drink with some mates. It certainly won't be your last visit...
